Build Season redux

Hey everyone, looks like we're going back to the drawing board on our robot's design, but only just a little bit. We recently began building a prototype set of arms like we had on him originally, but with a more generally sturdy area for climbing the tower. As always, pictures will be down below!

So... What's next?

Build season is now officially over. Now begins Post-build season. Any work that we wanted to accomplish during build season that doesn't strictly involve the robot, well, now we're doing that. Constructing the cart, designing costumes, making the fancy shmancy driver station. You name it, we're gonna work on it. Wish us luck!

On the last day of build season TEAM 5506 came up to visit and run their robot through it's paces along with our robot. We had a great time getting to know this second year team! We had pizza and checked out their bot (we love the tracks!) They have done a great job and we can't wait to meet up with them again at the Pine Tree District event!! Good Luck Viking Landers!!

Shaking things up a bit?

Hey, so, first wave of what may become a somewhat regular thing for blog posts: Videos! This one is simply a demonstration of our very own finished robot, who, for some reason, is still nameless. We're working on that though! In the future, we may decide to do vlog posts as well as normal blog posts, but for now, have a clip of the robot!

Robot Incoming!

Wow, okay, so a lot of major things have happened since the last update. First of all, the robot is even closer to completion, and there are all kinds of new fancy schmancy doodads and whatchamacallits on it! Then, we voted on the design that will be on our T-shirts for this year, and, last but not least, we have decided on what type of theme we want for our drive-team costumes! Pictures, of the robot, shall be down below!
Okay, but back to at least somewhat technical robot talk. We are using a tape-measure based climbing system for capturing the tower, and a squat design meant for stability. Not to mention squeezing under the low bar.

A week or two late on the update! Oh no! Our site manager really needs to get the trained monke- I mean content management team in line. That being said, we have a bunch of news!

Big thanks to FLL Team Lego Catastrophe for coming to visit the shop, and bringing the team some yummy treats to get us through our long work day Sunday!

The Chairman's Award team has been pulling some serious work together over the last two weeks, and this will be our last meeting before we have to upload it. Everything should be all set up now, and the final countdown has begun.

In other news, the build team has successfully constructed all necessary field elements, and the majority of our robot constructed. A name has not yet been given to this robot.

Pictures below have been designated at clearance level 0. Civilians may view.
All pictures below this point contain members of the team, in their natural habitat. Be warned, some of them might not have been happy about having their picture taken.

And so it begins.

That's right everyone, build season has begun again, and for the next five weeks we will be spending most of our time cranking out a robot for this year's challenge, FIRST Stronghold!

This year's challenge takes the idea of overly complicated robots and throws it right out the window. Fortunately, we have a competent build team, and a plan. While not much can be said yet, as most of the design phase, we can show you some of the preliminary build pictures.

Just a representative from the team, talking about the team, so the team doesn't have to.
