ROBOT RODEO with the IRON TIGERS

10/18/2014

Our team participated in the First Annual Robot Rodeo (hosted by the Gardiner Iron Tigers, Team 4041) that took place on October 18, 2014.    The Rodeo was initiated with the first of three events - an obstacle course.  The goal of this event was for a team to get their robot through a series objects permeating their paths with the quickest time.  This segment was nearly completely dependent on driving skills, and we achieved first place with no respect paid to driving within the lines.

The following two events were more fabulous in nature: Autonomous dancing and Tele-Op dancing (pre-programmed dance moves and dancing on the fly).  Each participating team had a song picked out and a coordinating dance.  We had Olga dance Tele-Op to "Mr. Roboto" - Styx.  Even more glamorous, we had Natasha dance Autonomous to "Gonna Fly Now (Rocky Theme Song)" - Bill Conti, whilst decked out with boxing gloves and a Rocky poster. Other notable, Old Town RobOTies (Team 5122) knocking the judges out with "Wrecking Ball"-Miley Cyrus and Northern Force (Team 172) dancing the Tango!

Thank you Iron Tigers for all your hard work! Can't wait to see what you have in mind for next year!

MAINELY SPIRIT

Natasha and Olga the Ugly both made it to the semi-finals of the Messalonskee High School Off-Season Strategic Sphere-Chucking Competition, (Better known as Mainely Spirit). Though that was apparently not where all of the skills were spent; we scored 2nd place in the humans chucking-basketball and tubes games. There weren't any obvious head injuries due to the erratic basketball throwing. - reported by KH
Fun in the pits, on the field and in the stands at Mainely Spirit. Thanks FIRST Team 2640 and volunteers for hosting all the teams!

What can you build with a four week deadline? Meet Wall-E our newest robotic team mate! The mechanical team and the programming team both worked quickly to create and animate Wall-E, with the help of some resident artists. He was a great success at the parade and will be our STEM Ambassador in our outreach programs into the future!
